PRAGUE, Czech Republic, May 25 (UPI) -- Czech authorities have banned outdoor breeding and transport of live poultry to contain spreading bird flu after two swans died of the avian virus.

The wild swans were found near the town of Kostice in the southeastern part of the country, Prague Radio reported Thursday.

Veterinary officials confirmed the two swans died of the deadly H5N1 strain of the virus and authorities immediately introduced safety measures to isolate the region.

This was the first case of the bird flu virus in the eastern Czech Republic.

In March, bird flu cases were registered in five different regions of southern Bohemia.

No new cases have been reported in the south of the country since May 10.
