Bird flu detected in Cambodia

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia has confirmed that the H5N1 strain of bird flu was found in ducks at a farm in Kompong Cham province, some 120 km north of Phnom Penh, local media reported.

Laboratory tests administered by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the Pasteur Institute showed that 20 dead ducks in the province carried the H5N1 virus, chief of the province’s veterinary service Deth Sovanra, was quoted by the Cambodia News Agency (AKP) as saying.

The local authorities immediately culled some 300 ducks and issued a ban on the transportation of poultry within a 3-km radius around the site of the outbreak.-Enditem
